High + Low

Colby Fountain is a multidisciplinary artist who has done it all.

By 16 he was running through the halls of the Gramercy Park Hotel, making a name in London’s East End club scene and heading to Hollywood to curate his gaze and interests in visual arts. Back in Austin, he studied photography and storytelling at St. Edward’s University, where he refined his passion for pop and art references and the Americana of the Southwest.

Colby’s work blends elements of the high end with the more visceral grounded low side of what art can be. In one instance he may explore societal collapse through the collapse of meaning in publication of pain in poetry. In another moment, he may photo manipulate himself, similarly to Kieth Cottingham, as the various unborn children he never could have post vasectomy as a radical queer rebellion of religious norms and an exploration of autonomy and identity and fictionalization.

Colby’s photographic gaze can best be described as theatrical and edgy when in the studio and memorable/bold when in event spaces.

His songwriting and musical artistry often explores numerous layered themes where these art disciplines converge. Having written, produced, and recorded thousands of demos and now launching OVNI, a pop act alter ego to showcase his talents and love for Bowie, Gwen, Madonna, and more.
